Boston Creams Maple Leafs Again!

Boston beat the Maple Leafs bad for the third time this season. Tonight the Leafs lost 6-3,the Leafs held out pretty steady untill the third period when they let 3 goals in. Last time the Maple Leafs played Boston on November the fifth they lost 7-0 and on October 19th they lost 6-2. Lets hope the next time the Maple Leafs meet up with Boston they will turn this 3 loss streak against them around.

Maple Leafs Have A Heart Dinner A Winner

The Maple Leafs held their 20th annual Have A Heart dinner presented by AM640 Tuesday at Earth Bloor West. It was another successful event as hundreds of fans were able to mix and mingle with their favourite players, coaches, their wives and partners along with general manager Brian Burke.
The night wrapped up with two exceptional items: A fan and 10 friends were able to win the chance to play a game of hockey at Wendel Clark’s rink; the final item was a fishing trip with Brian Burke on Lake Ontario and dinner at Eleven for four guests.

The event raised $200,000 for the MLSE Team Up Foundation with the money being invested into a new rink at Sunnydale in Rexdale over the next month with the Leafs opening the rink on January 4th.

Maple Leaf's Line Against Bruins

Wednesday's clash at Air Canada Centre marks the third of six meetings between these Northeast Division rivals. The Bruins earned convincing wins over the Maple Leafs on Oct. 20 and Nov. 5, outscoring Toronto by a 13-2 margin. Tyler Seguin paced the Bruins in their two victories over the Leafs by combining for 4 goals and 2 assists.

The Leafs host the Bruins for the second time this season, hoping to put two lopsided affairs in their rearview mirror and maintain their lead in the Northeast division in the process. Boston trails Toronto for first place in the division by a point with two games in hand. While the Leafs are fresh off a 3-1-0 road trip, the Bruins have been the League's hottest team in November, registering an 11-0-1 record in that span.

Phaneuf Has Been Burke's Pillar

Brian Burke traded for Dion Phaneuf on January 31, 2010, he risked very little.
What he gained was the pillar on which every other acquisition has been positioned.
The players who went to Calgary, Jamal Mayers, Matt Stajan, Ian White and Nik Hagman were going to go somewhere. Ex-Leafs litter the NHL. Nikolai Kulemin, Mikhail Grabovski and Luke Schenn are the only holdovers from when Burke signed on three years ago Tuesday.
Phaneuf’s career had stalled in Calgary. Always a point producer, his plus-minus fell to minus 11 in his last full season with the Flames. Flash forward to the present. With 18 points in 24 games, Phaneuf sits fifth in scoring for defencemen.  His leadership is unquestioned. Prized rookie defencemanJake Gardiner has been installed in the locker beside Phaneuf.

Markham Trying To Build NHL Sized Arena And Get NHL Hockey Team

Markham is possibly planning an NHL sized hockey rink that would seat 19,500 people, one of the proposed areas was along side Markham Road and Hwy 407. The group met with the NHL about getting a team for the Markham area but the NHL
promised them nothing and said "In other words, they should not make a decision to build if that decision is in any way related or dependent on the NHL locating a franchise in Markham. For purposes of their analysis, they should assume it will never happen". In 2009 billionaire Jim Balsillie tried to buy the Phoenix Coyotes and move the team to Hamilton in 2009. This did not work and was met with lots of resistance from the NHL (who remain in control of the Coyotes) and the Toronto Maple Leafs who claim to have exclusive rights to the GTA.

Maple Leafs Gardens Planned To Reopen On November 30th

The Maple Leaf Gardens will be reopening its doors after 10 years on November 30th. Loblaw's, LCBO and Ryerson will be occupying the old Gardens building. The grocery store will be unlike any other Loblaw's and supermarket, it will be an "urban food emporium worthy of the sophisticated tastes of Toronto's booming downtown condo-dwellers". Ryerson will be building a new athletic center and hockey arena above the grocery store. The Maple Leaf Gardens would have never been restored if Loblaw's and Ryerson never struck a deal to rebuild the facilities. Check out the link below for more details.

Maple Leaf Gardens at the corner of Carlton and Church Streets is undergoing a major transformation to a Loblaws, LCBO and Ryerson University space. It will reopen after 10 years on Nov. 30, 2011.

Maple Leafs Won Tonight Bringing Them Back Up To Third Place In The Easter Conference

Toronto beat dallas tonight 4-3 in a shootout! It was an intense game tonight both teams were keeping up with each other all night. The Maple Leafs should have been given a power play from Souray's highstick hit to Lupul's face in the last minute of the third, but Lupul managed to come back and finished the shootout off scoring the only goal of the shootout on the third shot for the Leafs.

The Toronto Maple Leafs turned a much-desired uptempo game into a victory.

Tyler Bozak scored two goals and added an assist and Tim Connolly had a goal and two assists to lead the Maple Leafs to a 7-1 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday night.

Clarke MacArthur(notes), Joe Colborne, Joffrey Lupul and Joey Crabbe also scored for the Maple Leafs, who had lost four of five.

Maple leaf Fans have to wait more for Reimers comeback

James Reimer will remain out at least another ten days.
That was the word from Ron Wilson, following the 23-year-old's first practice since November 1 as he continues to recover from concussion-like symptoms which have sidelined him for the last 15 games.
"This is a process so let's not rush it," said Wilson, following practice at the American Airlines Arena. "When we want him to go in there we want him to be 100 per cent in terms of stopping the puck and in terms of conditioning and all of that. He won't go in until he's ready."

Sydney Crosby Played A Great Game In his Return On Monday Night

Sydney Crosby managed to draw 5.7 million Canadian viewers on CBC in his first game since January. Crosby managed to score 2 goals and 2 assists against the Islanders. The question is will Crosby be able to keep it up? and what will happen if he takes another heavy hit?
On other news the Leafs won 7-1 tonight against Tampa Bay Lightning. The Maple Leafs creamed Tampa scoring 3 goals in the first period and 3 goals in the last. The Maple Leafs win from the 19th against Washington was also 7-1, lets hope they can start playing like that in every game!

Maple Leafs Host Slumping Capitals

Two teams going in the wrong direction after great starts meet up for a Hockey Night in Canada clash
This is the first meeting of the season. The Capitals won three of four against the Maple Leafs last season, but three of the four contests went to a shootout. Sixteen days ago the Maple Leafs were atop the Eastern Conference with 19 points, but losses in five of the past six have muted the early-season optimism in Toronto. Not only have the Leafs slid back to fifth place, they have been outscored 26-8 in the past six games.

Toronto Has Lost 5 Out Of The Last 6 Games...

It was another sad game last night for the Maple Leafs who cant seem to win anything anymore, they lost against the Predators 4-1. I'm not going to waste my time and post the game review in 6 minutes video, instead I will post this video of a huge fight between Toronto and Philly from back in the 90's. Every player on the ice from both teams is going at it, including the goalies (Felix Potvin vs Hextall).

Reasons For The Leafs Improvement

J.S. Giguere’s leadership with his defence:
J.S. has constantly communicated with his defence core and that has provided a stable and confident atmosphere for the group.

. Excellent puck support:
Quick, accurate and short passes have provided speed starting from the Leafszone
His fitness has improved this year and he participated in training camp. It looks like he is in for a big year.
. Luke Schenn/Tomas Kaberle/Dion Phaneuf are much improved:
Luke has found a confidence and comfort level which is part of the process of a young player improving. Tomas looks like he is having fun again. He has leadership help (no “A” -  great move Ron Wilson) and you get to a point where you just forget about the trade talk! Phaneuf has embraced the “C” and has kept his game efficient on the ice.

Maple leafs Gilmour Reflects On Career

Winning the Stanley Cup, producing a 127-point season, winning the hearts of everyone in Toronto, getting the call from the Hall -- it was all part in parcel to Gilmour's plain and simple goal of surviving to play another game in the NHL.

"I just look back and say I can't believe I lasted that long," Gilmour told NHL.com.

Gilmour, all 5-feet, 10 inches and 175 pounds of him, made his lasting power matter, finishing his career with 1,414 regular-season points on 450 goals and 964 assists in 1,474 career games. He's 12th all-time in assists and 17th in points. He added 60 goals and 128 assists for 188 points in 182 playoff games.

Monday night he'll be enshrined in the Hockey Hall of Fame with 2011 classmates Joe Nieuwendyk, Ed Belfour and Mark Howe. Gilmour won the Stanley Cup in 1989 with Nieuwendyk and was teammates with Nieuwendyk and Belfour in Toronto.

Maple Leafs Take #1 Spot In The League Tonight!!!!!

For the first time in a while the Toronto Maple Leafs are in the 1st place in the entire league. The Leafs stole first place tonight from the Penguins with their win over The Columbus Blue Jackets. I didn't think id see this happen again but the Leafs are on top. The Leafs last won the Stanley Cup in 1967 and this season seems to be the most hopeful for the Leafs in 44 years so lets keep our fingers crossed and hope the Leafs can stay on top!!!

The Leafs beat the Blue Jackets 4-1 tonight with Ben Scrivens playing a very successful NHL debut for his first game. Scrivens played very well tonight and made some amazing saves if he can keep playing like this he could potential have a successful NHL career.

Lupul's hat trick sends Leafs past Devils 5-3

Joffrey Lupul's second period hat-trick steered the Toronto Maple Leafs to a 5-3 victory over the New Jersey Devils on Wednesday, the virtuoso performance ruining home goaltender Martin Brodeur's return from injury.

Maple Leafs Beat The #1Team In The League!!!

Tonight the Leafs beat the Penguins who are holding onto the number 1 spot in the league. Gustavsson played a great game tonight after all the doubts he'd be able to hold up Reimers legacy for Toronto this year. It was a very intense and close game tonight with both teams being neck to neck all night. The Maple Leafs scored the only goal of the first period, with the Penguins scoring their first goal 10 minutes into the second period. This is when the game started to get really tense when Toronto scored the next goal a minute later. Pittsburgh scored their 2nd goal tie'ing the game up at 15 minutes into the second period. In the third period Toronto scored 3 minutes in with the Penguins scoring their second power play goal of the game tie'ing it up 3-3. Kessel scored the winning goal of the game 10 minutes into the third giving the leafs their 7th win of the season.

Connolly Is Expected To Return In Tomorrow Night's Game

Connolly will be returning against the New York Rangers in tomorrow nights game. Connolly stepped on a stick during a practice before the season started and ended up slamming into the boards injuring himself, Connolly has missed 85 games over the last four years due to his injuries. Connnolly has averaged 1 point a game for the last couple season's even after missing large chunks of the season's, so he has proved himself to be a very worthy player (when hes there). Lombardi will most likely be the player that will be dropped to the third line in order to make room for Connolly, which will create a line of Lupol, Connolly and Kessel. Connolly is expected to be setting up plays and shots for Kessel but is it going to end up the other way around, will Kessel be pulling Conolly up? Lets hope that Toronto knows what they are doing with the lines because so far what they are doing is working well for them. Will Connolly make it the rest of the season or will he be injured once again before the playoffs? Only time will tell and we will have to find out the hard way.

Lombardi Makes a Crazy Return to the Leafs

Matthew Lombardi an impressive comeback. Lombardi  has had a goal and assist in two games, and he is doing it with nominal ice time. While he is on the ice he has been among the consistent players on the little things. He is hitting and taking passes well, he is finding and creating free space, and he moves the puck through the center. With all this he has been playing about 10 or 11 minutes a game. But his ice time is sure to increase if he keeps playing this way.

Leafs Win Second Game Of The Season Against The Senators!

After a very intense game last night the Leafs managed to pull off a 6-5 victory over the Senators. Phil Kessel amazingly had a hat trick throughout the game last night which helped score another win for the Maple Leafs. Ottawa put up one hell of a fight in the third period going into it with 0 goals against Toronto who already had 4 goals. Overall it was one very intense game it seemed like Ottawa was going to tie the game with Toronto but thankfully they didn't!

Maple Leafs Make Trade For David Steckel.

The Leafs made the trade earlier today for New Jersey Devils player David Steckel. The leafs traded a fourth-round pick in next years draft. Steckel has been made famous from his infamous hit to the head of Sidney Crosby, who was hit again 4 days later and has not played since... Lets hope the leafs made a good call on this one!

David Steckel had one goal in 18 games last season with the Devils after being acquired from Washington at the trade deadline for centre Jason Arnott.

RECAP! The Leafs Preseason Outcome! 4 Wins and 4 Loses.

The Maple Leafs have finished their 8 game preseason with 4 wins and 4 loses. The Leafs did OK this preseason winning their first game against Ottawa 4-2. The next two games against Philadelphia, the leafs started out with an awful loss of 4-0 and came back with a 4-2 win in the second game against Philadelphia. The leafs continued on to lose 2 games in a row to Buffalo 2-1 then 3-2. The Leafs seemed to start trying a little harder at this point and went on to beat Ottawa in the 6th game of the preseason 5-3, then defeating Detroit 4-3. The final game of the preseason against Detroit the Leafs lost 4-2. Overall I am thinking the Leafs will be off to a better start this season than they have been in the last few. Lets hope the Leafs start off strong this Thursday in the first game of the season against Montreal.

Leafs lose to rivals again.....

The Leafs lost last night to the Sabres in Buffalo. Another close game for the leafs last night who lost 3-2, lets hope this doesn't become the new norm for this years season with the leafs. They need to do some better line tweaking before the season officially begins or they might be in for some trouble. Lets hope the leafs have a better game against their other rivals The Ottawa Senators on Tuesday, Sep 27.

Hockey fight from last night

Here is a video I took from my phone last night at the game. Sorry the video is so choppy, Enjoy!

Close Game for the leafs

The Toronto Maple Leafs lost last night 2-1 to the Sabres. Both teams had 33 shots on net but the leafs lost halfway through the third period when Jason Pominville scored on the powerplay. Phil Kessel scored the leafs only goal midway through the second period. Tonight the Leafs and Sabres will be having a rematch in Buffalo so hopefully the leafs can beat Buffalo this time around!
